For many of the children in our SKOLA+ project, speaking Ukrainian is about finding the confidence to share what they think, tell their own stories, and make themselves heard. In our Ukrainian language clubs, we want children to experience language in a way that feels natural and relevant to their everyday lives. Instead of focusing only on grammar and textbooks, we encourage them to ask questions, conduct interviews, share their opinions, and talk openly about what matters to them.
We make sure there is room for everyone to participate, try things out, and learn at their own pace. Sometimes, that means finding the right words. Other times, it simply means having the courage to speak up. With every session, we see children becoming more comfortable expressing themselves in Ukrainian, gaining confidence, and discovering that their thoughts and ideas are worth sharing.
For us at Tabula Rasa for the Future Generation, this is an important part of SKOLA+: helping children develop their language skills while strengthening their connection to Ukrainian culture, their communities, and each other.
